The built-in AppFaktors assessment functionality facilitates the detailed review of architectures and their artifacts to validate that architectural decisions align with organization application architecture objectives, adhere to standards, and mitigate risks. An organization’s enterprise architects, Review Board, and anyone else involved in designing, submitting, reviewing, and approving architectures should be part of a robust assessment process.

Some of the key assessment tasks include:

  • Evaluating architecture assessment requests.

  • Verifying that AppFaktors assessment questionnaires align with the organization’s architecture standards.

  • Using AppFaktors assessment questionnaires to conduct timely assessments.

  • Creating reports with assessment findings and recommendations to enforce compliance with organization architecture standards and mitigate the risks associated with the proposed architecture.

This diagram provides a high-level overview of the assessment process and key personnel involved with assessments.

An AppFaktors assessment flows as follows:

  1. The organization's Architecture team publishes an assessment catalog, which is available on the AppFaktors Home screen.

  2. The Requestor initiates a new assessment request for a new or modified application and/or rationalization process.

  3. AppFaktors routes the request to the Assessment Process Owner.

  4. The Assessment Process Owner reviews the request and then creates an Assessment Board and related schedule based on the priority.

  5. AppFaktors forwards the Assessment Responder view to all Responders. This view contains the assessment questionnaire, application artifacts, Architecturally Significant Requirements (ASRs), Policies, key decisions, etc.

  6. Each Assessment Responder answers the questionnaire. They may also see answers from other Assessment Responders and collaborate to define or update the application architecture.

  7. Assessment Reviewers collaboratively review and analyze the responses.

  8. The assessment review occurs once the Assessment Reviewers are satisfied with all inputs. This occurs using the AppFaktors project architecture and built-in review tools, which can be supplemented with external information.

  9. Assessment Reviewers create a report and forward it to the list of people listed in the “Send response to” field. Assessment Reviewers and Assessment Responders can view the report before final publication. – in the original text, Reviewers plural seemed to become a singular Reviewer with no explanation; please clarify/expand as needed. Also, please ensure terminology aligns with application.
